Throughout a heritage that dates to 1864, we have sought to generate attractive real returns for our clients over the long term. Our History

Founded in Europe in 1864 but headquartered in New York since 1937, our firm maintains a global frame of reference that reflects our international heritage and experience. First Eagle is committed to nurturing an investment-centric culture; we view ourselves as a firm of investors, not of asset-gatherers. 1864 Gebr. Arnhold
(Arnhold Brothers)
founded in Dresden

The firm financed a range of local businesses, including brewers.

1928 Acquired Adler Bank in Switzerland

Adler means “Eagle” in German, and ultimately served as the basis of the company’s future renaming as “First Eagle.”

1931 Arnhold and S. Bleichroeder formed in Berlin

The combination of two storied banks created one of the leading merchant and investment banks in Europe

1937 All business activities moved to New York City

Faced by the realities of a deteriorating global political and economic environment, the firm relocated to New York.

1967 Launched first offshore fund, First Eagle Fund N.V

The firm moved beyond managing the wealth of family and friends and began investing on behalf of external clients.

1979 Creation of Global Value strategy by Jean-Marie Eveillard

Jean-Marie would later join First Eagle through 1999 acquisition of Société Générale Asset Management Corp.

1987 Established first US-registered mutual fund, First Eagle Fund of America

1999 Acquired majority share of Société Générale Asset Management Corp.

Forming what is now our Global Value team, this acquisition solidified the firm’s commitment to a prudent approach to investing characterized by patience, humility and conviction.

2002 Sold investment banking and global securities businesses

Divestment reoriented firm’s focus exclusively on investment management.

2009 Renamed First Eagle Investment Management

2011 Introduced high yield credit capability

Hiring of team expanded the firm’s investment lineup into fixed income.

2015 Private equity funds managed by Blackstone Capital Partners and Corsair Capital invest in the firm

The long-term investment of these companies ensured a continuation of First Eagle’s investment culture and philosophy.

2017 Acquired private credit manager NewStar Financial

Acquisition marked expansion of investment capabilities into alternative credit space.

2020 Acquired alternative credit manager THL Credit, forming Alternative Credit team

Acquisition bolstered First Eagle’s position as one of the leading managers of broadly syndicated loan and direct-lending strategies.

2021 Established Small Cap team

Experienced team brought a time-tested, opportunistic approach to active management in a particularly inefficient market.

2021 Renamed First Eagle Investments

2022 Acquired Napier Park Global Capital

Acquisition significantly broadens alternative credit capabilities including opportunistic credit.

2023 Established High Yield Municipal Credit Team

Launch to expand firm’s fixed income footprint into municipal credit, a key asset class for a range of retail and institutional investors in the US.

2025 Private equity funds managed by Genstar Capital make majority investment in the firm

The investment preserves First Eagle’s independence and investment-led culture while accelerating organic and inorganic growth.

2026 Acquired Diamond Hill Investment Group

Acquisition expanded footprint in traditional fixed income while augmenting US-focused multi-cap equity capabilities.
